DUCKS CROSSING a
new play by
Jane Shepard Vital Theatre Company Theatre Row . NYC |
BROAD COMEDY . When the ornery Wally Frances threatens to take over Minnie Evans' beloved Parthenon Pool Hall, the regulars - Bob Bean, Skud, Hostetta, Scrumpy and Twila, are worried indeed. Yes, there is a drunken confession, a fabulous courtroom scene, a pig, magical happenings, a mail order philosophy course, and unlikely love. An unabashedly uncynical comedy about community, yearning, and the pursuit of happiness for the small town heart that secretly beats in us all. |
|
"Ducks Crossing
is the feel-good must-see comedy this town’s been waiting for...a loveable batch of zany
eccentrics... and director Julie Hamberg and her superlative company of ten actors bring them to vivid life with warmth, conviction, and grand humor.
|
|
It culminates in a hilarious act-two courtroom scene… (This scene is so funny that I missed many of the lines and visual jokes, so dissolved in laughter was I. It’s a showcase for the entire company, every one of whom has at least one moment to shine in this splendidly fashioned sequence.) Every aspect of the production is pretty much flawless...” Martin Denton, NYTHEATRE.COM |
|
“…Julie Hamberg’s fast-paced, completely professional production and the Herculean efforts of the outstanding cast… …the cast was an outstanding, endearing bunch… …there was always something that amused, startled, or impressed…” Doug DeVita, OOBR |

| Why I/We did this one... |
|
This
was the first show Vital did after 9/11. Everyone had been paralyzed
after the attacks. No play seemed appropriate. Then we re-found
Jane's oh-so-silly play about community. Belly laughs, magic and
coming together in this little space was just the ticket. |
